Subject: Help STOP cuts to Childcare!
YWCA Greater Rhode Island has 140 years of experience serving women and families in Rhode Island. Our childcare program and after school programs have proven to effectively provide a great deal of assistance to children and families within Central Falls who have low incomes and limited resources.
Reducing funds to childcare programs means the loss of an essential childcare to these families.
I am writing today to ask for your support in preventing these cuts that would deny nearly 4,000 children childcare and put several providers out of business, decreasing the availability of child care to all parents.
Governor Carcieri's proposal to reduce parent eligibility levels for child care assistance and to shortchange child care facilities and after school programs of much needed resources will hurt our children, our families, and our economy.
I ask you to consider these factors:
1) Children must have access to safe, quality, affordable child care programs that prepare them for school and their future.
2) Parents must be enabled to work, pay taxes, and contribute to our economy.
3) Providers must have resources to ensure the best care possible for our children.
Childcare is one area Rhode Island cannot afford to reduce. On the surface funds may appear to have been saved, however much is being lost when we are not supporting our children...our future.
