Your Personal Statement
Since 1969 the Marin County Youth Commission has been the voice for young people in our community. But funding cuts threaten its existence.
We need the Youth Commission to continue its work around issues such as transportation, school nutrition, youth homelessness and education.
Bringing a youth perspective to these complex problems creates better solutions. The Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) has staffed the Commission for years and has been key to successfully engaging a diverse group of youth to create real change.
But YLI is now being faced with cutbacks from the foundation that has supported its work in Marin for the past 15 years. Without supplemental support from the county, the Youth Commission could be out of commission.
Other cities and counties give significant support to their Youth Commissions, including San Francisco ($250,000), San Mateo ($90,000) and Oakland ($125,000). Marin County should give significant support to our Youth Commission as well.
Please include $75,000 in the 07-08 county budget for the Marin County Youth Commission. Help keep this vital youth perspective alive.
