Subject: Support Temporary Workers' Right to Know - Hearing June 13th
Dear Senator McGee and Representative Torrisi,
I am writing to urge your support for the Temporary Workers Right to Know Bill (HB1829/SB1062). This bill would require that a temp agency provide workers with the most basic information about the job for which they are being hired. It also prohibits charges for safety equipment required on the job. The attorney general's office would prepare the notice of the bill's provisions and also enforce the law.
The American dream is that if you work hard you ought to be able to support yourself and your family. Yet each year, thousands of workers in our state are sent to worksites by temp agencies without knowing where they are going, the type of work they will do --- including whether they face hazardous conditions, and even their rate of pay. As temporary agencies are exempt from licensing requirements, there is little or no oversight. Consequently, without basic information about their rights, temp workers are easily exploited.
I think that this is a very important bill and I hope you will speak out in favor of it to make sure it passes this year.
Sincerely,
