Considering that the US is at war and that the US military recruiting budget has risen dramatically in recent years it is important for news agencies to provide information and perspectives that may be critical of the US military recruiting process. In addition, it has been reported in recent years that sexual assault against women in the military has increased. In light of that fact it would have been beneficial to viewers to provide that kind of context in a story like the one you ran on November 12 since the man cited in the story was charged with assault and that the military is considering lowering its standards for people with a criminal record.
In the future we hope your news organization would seek out sources in the
community that could provide a perspective critical of military recruiting and more background information that would be relevant to the story.
