As a member of the West Michigan community who wants to respect religious and racial diversity, I urge you to discontinue airing the Michael Savage show on your station. Savage has a history of engaging in hate speech, most recently directed at Muslims.
When Savage says, "To save the United States, lawmakers should institute an outright ban on Muslim immigration and on the construction of mosques," this constitutes hate speech. The Muslim community is already under duress since the 9/11, 2001 terror attacks in the US and hate speech like this can contribute to further acts of intimidation and violence against those who practice Islam.
Your radio station, like all broadcasters, has an obligation to use the license that is provided by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to serve the public interest. Airing a radio program like the Michael Savage Show does not serve the public interest, therefore I urge you not to run this show or any others that promote hate speech.
