Dear State Representatives:
These are tough times. The State of Rhode Island can make them better by restoring the General Revenue Sharing to cities and towns. By cutting this aid cites and towns will likely be forced to raise property taxes to make up the shortfall (see the chart below) This is unfair when the State is giving tax breaks like the Flat Tax to a hand full of very well off people. More than a dozen of your colleagues are sponsoring amendments to restore revenue sharing, I urge you to support the amendments.
You have an especially tough job this year: but there is still time to do the right thing by the voters of Rhode Island. Please make the state budget work for working and middle class Rhode Islanders.
