Rubio 1115 Truxtun Avenue, 5th Floor Bakersfield, CA 93301 Phone (661) 868-3690 FAX (661) 868-3645 I am a concerned resident writing this letter to urge you to allocate funding to the prevention and intervention programs for youth at-risk of delinquency that were slashed by local agencies as a result of the approximately 10% budget cut to the county fund in fiscal year 2009-2010 and the proposed 20% budget cut to the county fund for fiscal year 2010-2011. I recognize that the county has fiscal constraints. However, investing in prevention and intervention programs for juvenile offenders can save the county as much as $30,000 per youth including costs of law enforcement, the court system, and correctional facilities. When allocating funds for the 2010-2011 fiscal year budget, please consider the benefits that youth intervention and prevention programs provide to our community.

I am aware of the impact that the budget cuts to the Peer Support Centers in Tennessee will have on mental health consumers. I want to share my concern about the effects of isolation on individuals with mental illness and encourage you to consider the possibility of legislative action on behalf of those affected. Title 33 focuses on mental health, and it would be improved with a focus on community mental health as a preventive measure to crisis stabilization. The SU at IOE is leading a campaign to have no cuts in our education. By signing this petition you are demanding that IOE administrators should think of alternatives to forced redundancies and merging of departments.
