PETITION GOVERNOR PATERSON TO HOLD A SPECIAL ELECTION FOR THE 29TH DISTRICTSubmitted by amymik on Tue, 2010-04-06 09:46.
On March 31, 2009, a special election in the 20th Congressional District of New York State filled the seat vacated January 26 by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who was appointed to the Senate by Governor David Paterson. Eight months later, a special election in the 23rd Congressional District was held on November 3, 2009 for the seat vacated by Secretary of Army John McHugh, who resigned from Congress September 21, 2009.
Here in the 29th District, where our seat was vacated on March 9, 2009, Governor Paterson has broken his promise to call a special election "as soon as possible,” citing “serious concerns about the financial impact a special election may have.”
Apparently these financial issues are only considered if a district is in Western New York.
To say that the Governor is playing politics is an understatement. Six hundred and sixty thousand western New Yorkers had no voice in the House on “Health Care Reform” and no voice on the government takeover of the student loan industry. We will not have a voice on coming issues such as “Cap and Trace,” immigration reform, and the on-going appropriations process that will decide the 2011 Federal budget.
American Revolutionary and Boston politician James Otis famously used the phrase "taxation without representation is tyranny.” There is no doubt that Governor Paterson’s decision not to call for a special election in the 29th district is unwise, unjust, and tyrannical. Government derives its just powers from the consent of the governed.
Without an election, there is no representation. Without representation, there is no consent. Without consent, the government is no longer just.
We, the undersigned, strongly urge Governor Paterson keep his promise to call for a special election “as soon as possible” so that the 29th district can once again believe that the individuals in our state and federal governments are truly acting in the best interest of all of the people of New York State.

NYS Taxpayers Are Fed Up With Budget GamesSubmitted by citizenbroome on Wed, 2010-03-31 14:24.
During this unprecedented budget crisis it is imperative that the voice of the taxpayer be heard. It is unreasonable to expect us to shoulder more of the burden without the State enacting a fiscally responsible budget. Taxpayers are at their breaking point.
Accordingly I am asking you to act on my behalf and support the following:
1) Reopen all union contracts including teachers and negotiate zero increase in lieu of layoffs.
2) Mandatory wage freeze for all public employees.
3) 10% salary reduction for elected and appointed officials.
4) Zero budget increase.
5) No borrowing.
6) Property Tax Cap
This is nothing less than the average citizen would do with their own finances. It really is time for you to support the needs of the people who elected you instead of the special interest groups and public work sector.
I would like to know where you stand on these matters.
SDS is/was NOT a left-wing militiaSubmitted by waltweberjr on Tue, 2010-03-30 23:05.
Tuesday March 30th on Countdown, Mr. Olbermann referred to the SDS and the SLA as examples of left-wing militias in the past, similar to the right-wing militia group whose members have just been arrested in Michigan.
I assume that Mr. Olbermann mis-spoke when referring to the SDS as a militia, perhaps instead meaning to mention the Weather Underground or some other group. The SDS, or Students for a Democratic Society, does not have a history of violence. Quite the opposite, they advocate change through non-violence in the tradition of Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The idea that the SDS was ever armed or carried out military-style training is simply false.
I request that Mr. Olbermann correct himself on air. The SDS continues its work today towards building a more democratic and peaceful society.
No Way, No How, No Tax HikesSubmitted by unitedrepublican on Tue, 2010-03-30 08:21.
Governor Quinn.
I'm writing to urge you to give up your fight for Illinois tax hikes.
Illinois' unemployment rate is at 12%.
Major Illinois employers, such as Caterpillar and John Deere, stand to lose hundreds of millions of dollars due to the ObamaCare boondoggle.
And yet you seek further hurt Illinois employers and workers with a massive 33% income tax hike.
Caterpillar is already fighting to recover from the economic downturn in which they had to lay off thousands of Illinois workers. Last week, they announced that ObamaCare threatens this recovery — costing them $100 million in the first year of the program alone.
Another Illinois employers, John Deere, says the health care legislation will cost them upwards of $150 million.
These massive costs threaten Illinois jobs. Your tax hike will only add fuel to the unemployment fire.
Please reverse course. For the good of Illinois' economy, stop pushing for a massive income tax hike.

Thank you Comptroller DiNapoli for Taking Action to Protect New York State from HydrofrackingSubmitted by cmk on Wed, 2010-03-24 14:21.
Dear Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli,
Thank you for standing up and taking action to protect the people of New York State from potential threats to our health, property and wellbeing from gas drilling using hydrofracking. We appreciate that you filed resolutions insisting that gas drilling companies inform their stockholders of the risks of fracking and explain to them the policies they might adopt to minimize the risk of contamination of water, soil and air due to fracking.
We congratulate you on your efforts and urge you to continue to take whatever actions are required to protect us from these potential threats.
