Rhode Island is Ready for a Fair Education Funding Formula!Submitted by KarinaWood on Wed, 2010-05-26 21:07.
Dear House Speaker Fox, Senate President Paiva-Weed,
House Finance Chairman Costantino, and Senate Finance Chairman DaPonte:
Thank you for your commitment to public education reform.
I urge you to pass a fair education funding formula this year.
I support an equitable funding formula, to be implemented THIS YEAR, with a commitment to increase State funding to 50% of total education costs over time.
I urge you to ensure there is sufficient State funding for children with the highest needs: children in poverty, English Language Learners, and Special Education students.
Sincerely yours,

Addisville CommonsSubmitted by addisvilleone on Tue, 2010-05-25 17:22.
Dear Northampton Township Officials:
I support the redevelopment of the former Davis Pontiac site in Richboro. The proposed Town Center, which includes a combination of small retail shops, quaint restaurants and luxury residential apartments, along with an upscale Giant supermarket, will revitalize town center and be an economic boost to the community. Therefore, I support the rezoning of the property to allow for this redevelopment.
Thank you for NOT hearing H8142Submitted by oceanstateaction on Tue, 2010-05-25 15:16.
Dear Speaker Gordon D. Fox,
Thank you for not allowing a hearing on House Bill 8142, which would have needlessly exacerbated the climate of hatred toward the immigrant community that already exists. And thank you for standing up to groups like RIILE and the Tea Party that have been instrumental in promulgating this climate of hatred.
Representative Palumbo introduced this legislation with mean-spirited and divisive intentions. Nationally, there is much agreement that federal comprehensive immigration reform is the appropriate means to address this issue.
As you know, the language contained within the bill would allow police to question any individual that they deem as "reasonably [suspicious]" about his or her citizenship. The nature of the language specifically used within this bill was extremely ambiguous and would have inevitably resulted in the use of racial profiling.
I hope that in the future you will do what is best for Rhode Island by continuing to stand against this legislation and any similar bills that may be introduced. We want to maintain Rhode Island's reputation as being a great place to live, work, and raise a family. And in the spirit of Roger Williams, we must preserve our tradition of maintaining a society that is tolerant of all.

TMX Zones in GermantownSubmitted by g4sg on Mon, 2010-05-24 13:43.
Montgomery County Council members:
I ask that you established the new text amendment to prohibit more big boxes in our communities. The safety and livability of neighborhoods in and around Germantown have recently seen significant increases in traffic due to existing shopping centers such as Milestone and Neelsville.
The new TMX zone should not create loop holes for developers to over burden our community with large destination style shopping centers. I urge the Montgomery County Council to implement this new amendment and therefore create true pedestrian friendly mixed uses within Germantown.
TMX Zoning ConcernsSubmitted by MoCoSmartGrowth on Mon, 2010-05-24 13:08.
To the Members of the Montgomery County Council:
As Montgomery County residents we are greatly concerned with the new TMX zone recently approved by the council. This new zoning classification creates new patterns of land development around transit stations which fails to eliminate the large big boxes retailers now found in larger regional style shopping centers. I would like to offer my voice and opinion of NO to big boxes in our backyards.
Furthermore, I support the pending text amendment language that would eliminate large retail centers from this zone. I hope that as our elected officials that you will hear our voices of concern regarding this matter.
I Support the Proposal to Hold a 1/4 Cent Sales Tax ReferendumSubmitted by allanhrosen on Sun, 2010-05-23 06:46.
May 31, 2010
Dear Ms. Foushee and fellow commissioners,
I support placing a referendum on the November ballot proposing a quarter-cent local sales tax increase, provided a significant portion of the revenues raised (33% minimum) are dedicated to supporting the strategic action plan for economic development proposed by Economic Development Commission. These funds would provide a secure funding base for this crucial investment in Orange Countys long-term economic and fiscal health.
Respectfully submitted,
Hold the Line on Arts and Cultural Funding!Submitted by Arts Action All... on Thu, 2010-05-20 13:03.
Broward County's arts and cultural organizations are critical to our quality of life. They gather together and inspire our diverse communities and ensure a creative spark in the next generation that enables them to compete on a global stage.
Historically, local government has been a pivotal partner in nurturing the development of a strong fabric of cultural groups. But proposed cuts in county funding are now imperiling Broward's cultural organizations: programs that benefit our community have been reduced and further cuts will force some groups to close their doors forever.
The Broward County Board of County Commissioners should Hold the Line on funding for cultural organizations. I oppose any further cuts to county funding for arts and culture in the 2010-2011 budget.
