Subject: Save the New York State Theatre Institute
DEAR LEGISLATOR:
I wish to voice my strong opposition to the proposed cuts to the New York State Theatre Institute (NYSTI) funding in the 2010-2011 Executive Budget.
Education through the arts is the crowning achievement of NYSTI and has been for 36 years. Tens of thousands of New York State students from all income levels and backgrounds - notably, children from urban school districts who might otherwise not have experienced live theatre - have been enriched by NYSTI since 1974. No other state can boast this remarkable record of uninterrupted theatre arts education at the state level.
The proposed cuts would effectively destroy NYSTI by 2011-2012. The demise of NYSTI would be an immeasurable and irretrievable loss for New York State.
Please use your best efforts on behalf of all New York State students - past, present and future - to save and preserve this unique education institution.
