Subject: No Zoning Variances for Tax Deadbeats

As a taxpayer of Philadelphia, I support the bill sponsored by Councilman Frank Rizzo that would disallow or delay the granting of a zoning variance to any property owner not current on real estate taxes.

Also, I support the bill being broadened so that it applies to all other types of land use approvals issued by the Zoning Board, to approvals issued by the Historical Commission, to Plans of Development approved by the Planning Commission and to rezonings of property by City Council.

Everyone should pay their taxes, especially landowners seeking approvals from our City. I recognize that other minor adjustments may be helpful and I am confident that Councilman Rizzo can shape this bill into a strong and effective law.
