Subject: Bowen Street
Your Personal Statement
Dear Aldermen,
At the 9/21 traffic council meeting, the members set a precedent when they voted five to zero to recommend parking meters on a small purely residential street that has no shops or commerce of any kind.
The residents of Bowen Street are vigorously opposed to the placement of the meters, but the traffic council has ignored their input, stating that residents âdonât own the parking rights to their street.â The council also stated it is against providing any free street parking for local small business owners or employees working in Newton Centre.
You will be voting on the traffic council recommendation in early October. I hope you will consider how the look and feel of Newton Centre might change if you vote to support the precedent of meter placement on small, purely residential streets.
I would also hope that the input of the residents would carry a lot more weight than they currently seem to.
As our elected officials, I ask that this be voted down.
Thank you for your consideration.
