Subject: Preserve the integrity of Riverview-Fiske Park
Your Personal Statement
Dear Councilperson and Mr. Wrigley (city architect):
The City recently released a draft of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan which includes plans for Riverview-Fiske Park located in Ward D.
Although the Plan outlines several needed and appreciated improvements for Riverview-Fiske Park, it includes two new active recreation installations that I oppose -- specifically, a volleyball court and a tennis court on the Eastern side of the park. These additions would obstruct priceless views of Manhattan, Hoboken and the Hudson River and conflict with the historic character of the Park.
I urge you to support the preservation of Riverview-Fiske Park's historic and passive recreation nature by instructing Jersey City's consultants, T&M Associates, to eliminate the volleyball and tennis courts from the final Parks Master Plan. The $75,000 savings will be better utilized to help acquire additional open space.
Sincerely,
