On Tuesday January 19, 2010, Governor Paterson has announced that NYSTI’s annual funding will be cut in half this year and would cease to be funded from the state’s budget by the 2011-2012 fiscal year.

HELP US IN THE EFFORT to save and preserve this unique educational institution!

The Citizens for the New York State Theatre Institute was created to Advocate against these cuts to NYSTI’s funding. Education through the arts is the crowning achievement of NYSTI and has been for 36 years. Tens of thousands of New York State students from all income levels and backgrounds, who might otherwise not have experienced live theatre, have been enriched by NYSTI since 1974. No other state can boast this remarkable record of uninterrupted theatre arts education at the state level. The proposed cuts would effectively destroy NYSTI by 2011-12. The demise of NYSTI would be an immeasurable and irretrievable loss for New York State.
